When you ping your blog, you tell the search engines and other sites that you have updated your blog,then they will come and check it out.
That way,your posts get easily indexed in the search engines and you get better ranking because search engines love the blog which is being updated frequently with good content.
How to Ping Your Blog ?
For Blogger user:
For Wordpress user :I will recommend using sites like http://pingomatic.com/ .You can enter your blog name,your homepage and your RSS URL. Then you can check all services and SEND PINGS for your blog.
Another way of doing it is to install a Wordpress plugin, that is MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer.You can get it from http://www.maxblogpress.com/plugins/mpo/
You can scroll all the way down and click "Download Now".After finish downloading, you can unzip it and read the README file, then you upload the file needed using your FTP into PLUGINS folder. Finally you go back to Wordpress, go to PLUGINS and you will notice under the INACTIVE PLUGINS, there is a MAXBLOGPRESS PING OPTIMIZER. Check that and click on activate.If you want to access the settings for the Ping optimizer, just go to SETTINGS and click on MBP PING OPTIMIZER. Registration is free but you need to enter your name and email address.
